I am Sister Rita Wienken. I grew up on a small family farm in northwest Ohio. From a small child I loved to be outside in the garden working with my mom. I learned early on the importance of where our food came from and what it took to raise a family of eight on a small farm. My love for growing things stayed with me as I pursued my dream to become a Sister of St. Francis. My ministry endeavors included teaching in the elementary classroom and working in our maintenance department at our motherhouse. In 1994 I became Director of the Franciscan Earth Literacy Center, a ministry sponsored by the Sisters of St. Francis located in Tiffin, Ohio. I resigned my position as Director in 2005 so that I could begin Seeds of Hope Farm. |

Self Service Farm Stand |
| |

|
Our self-service farm stand opens in early June and closes after our fall harvest. We provide the general public with, quality, chemical-free produce as well as eggs and chicken from pastured poultry. The farm stand is located just north of the Franciscan Earth Literacy Center. Follow the signs from St. Francis Ave. We are open daily from 9:00 a.m. – dusk. Closed Sunday.
During the winter months when the farm stand is closed eggs and frozen whole or cut-up broilers are available at the Franciscan Earth Literacy Center building. |

Join Our CSA |

What is a CSA? Community Supported Agriculture is a consumer - based movement that allows families to enjoy fresh, chemical free produce all season long. At the beginning of the season a family, couple, or individual purchases a share in the farm and then once a week picks up fresh produce at the farm or from one of our drop-off sites. Purchasing a share is an opportunity to support the work of the farm and at the same time receive quality, fresh produce. Our CSA is in its sixth year. There are 100 shares available for the 2010 growing season. Drop-off sites in 2010 include Findlay, Perrysburg, Port Clinton, and at the farm in Tiffin.
There are two types of shares available, a working share
and a non-working share. Working shares give the shareholder
an opportunity to work on the farm for a reduction in the
price of a share. Working shares are valuable for the farm
and the shareholder. Fresh market production of vegetables,
herbs, flowers, and fruits are very labor intensive. Shareholders
who decide to take on a working share help to off-set the work
off the farm. A working share provides the shareholder with
an opportunity to engage in farm activities and see first-hand how your food is grown.
Families, couples or individuals may choose to purchase a full-share, a half-share or a single share. A full-share typically feeds a family of four.
A registration form is required and can be found by clicking on the line below.

Port Clinton and Fremont CSA members |
 |
For those of you from the Fremont and Port Clinton areas we are giving you an opportunity to have your CSA boxes delivered to you during the 2009 growing season.
This year Seeds of Hope Farm is making a weekly produce delivery to the Catawba Island Club in Port Clinton, Ohio. Thursday delivery will be late in the day. As a way to promote and get more folks to sign-up for our CSA shares in your areas Seeds of Hope Farm will be happy to bring CSA boxes along with our delivery to the Catawba island Club. There are several items to remember when thinking about signing up for this opportunity:
- Seeds of Hope Farm needs a designated site in Fremont to deliver the boxes
- So far the delivery in Port Clinton will be somewhere by the Catawba Island Club Restaurant
- Folks will be expected to pick their boxes within a certain time period
We are looking to try and get at least 10 CSA members in the Port Clinton area and 10 in the Fremont area.
If you are from the Fremont or Port Clinton area and have some suggestions or further questions about how and where we can make this happen please contact Sr. Rita.
