Seeds of Hope Farm
Share in the Harvest 2009
Agreement & Sign-up form for a CSA share

Dear Friends,

This is our fifth year to offer CSA memberships at Seeds of Hope Farm. This year we are looking for 70 CSA shareholders to share in the cost, risks and joys of farming. We are about growing healthy, nutritious chemical-free produce to the public. Each week during the growing season a shareholder will receive a box of fresh produce. Our growing season is between 18 – 20 weeks and generally runs from Mid-May to Mid-October depending on the weather. Seeds of Hope Farm staff would like to have shares filled in early February 2009 so that the summer work schedule etc. can be done in a timely fashion.

There are two different kinds of shares:

  • A non-working share is a share in which a shareholder chooses to participate in receiving weekly vegetables but not assist with the work on the farm.
  • A working share is a share in which shareholders receive a reduction in the cost of a share in exchange for assisting with work on the farm.

Working Shares

There are plenty of ways that shareholders assist with work on the farm. If you are not physically able to work outside there are other ways to fulfill your working share. Shareholders can:

  • Plant
  • Weed
  • Harvest
  • Clean and pack produce boxes
  • Help clean the farm stand area

Seeds of Hope managers encourage working shares as you play a vital role in the work that needs to be accomplished on the farm.

FULL-SHARES AND HALF SHARES

A full-share of produce is usually described as feeding a family of four who like vegetables. There are several ways to participate in our CSA program:

  • Sign up for a full-share
  • Split a share with a friend. Many couples or singles do this. We encourage those who only want a half-share to try and find someone to split a full-share. If you cannot find someone then sign-up for a half-share.

PRODUCE PICK-UP DAYS:

There will be two days for produce pick-up in 2009:

  • Full-share pick-up will be on Wednesdays
  • Half-share pick-up on Thursday

There is going to be a change in how produce is distributed in 2009. In the past CSA members picked up a box of produce that was already packed by those working on the farm. This year produce will be packaged and placed into bins in the walk-in cooler or placed on tables outside of the cooler. It will be the CSA shareholders responsibility to bring bags, boxes, or totes to fill. Signs will be posted for you as to how much of each product you are permitted to take.

It will be very important for members to pick-up there produce on days assigned. The increase of shareholders, space in the cooler, and your responsibility to fill your own box will make it vital for you to pick-up your produce on the day assigned.

Plan to spend about 15 – 20 minutes to select your produce. There will also be opportunities for u-pick herbs and that will also take additional time.

CHILDREN

Children are great to have on the farm and they are welcome to come along with you to pick up your box and to come when you work. You may want to bring some outdoor play activities if the children get “bored” helping in the fields. There is plenty of lawn area close to the fields for children to play in.

WORKING SHARES

Those of you who choose working shares may want to bring the following with you:

  • Water bottle
  • Sun screen
  • Gloves
  • Boots or old shoes if it has recently rained/ rain gear in case you get caught in the fields in a rain storm
